Full job description

Waste Connections, Inc. has an opening for a high energy self-directed Heavy Equipment Preventative Maintenance Technician to join the team at our Travis County Landfill in Austin, TX . Previous waste experience would be a huge plus !

This will be a Monday - Friday position working 6:00AM–5:00 PM and on call

rotational Saturdays. With a pay rate of $35-$40 depending on experience. Plus year round OT.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform assigned preventative maintenance services including oil and lube changes, replacement of lamps, bulbs, replace brake shoes, perform wheel seals, Pressure washing of equipment, replace hydraulic lines and many more repairs to keep the equipment running and efficient.

  • Rebuild final Drives, changing blade end bits, experience with AC and heating for equipment, ability to diagnose and repair problems onsite.

  • Inspect electrical, hydraulics, suspension brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.

  • Utilize basic vehicle computer electrical systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.

  • Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment.

  • Complete required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.

  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.

  • Comfortable with assisting with operations by operating different pieces of yellow iron equipment if needed while maintenance duties are slow.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.

  • Work environment outdoors to repair equipment on the landfill. Usually, well-lighted and ventilated. Sometimes it is necessary to work in awkward or tight positions and to handle greasy or dirty tools. These factors require following basic safety precautions.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Must have experience working on yellow iron/heavy equipment

  • Must provide your own Tools, site will provide speacialty tools if needed
