Full job description

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work - Full-Time; Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm. Must be flexible to the needs of the program, which may require evenings for various school events or training.

Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree, including or in addition to 12 credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field; one year teaching experience in a child care center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program; one year supervising staff in a child care program. OR Associate’s Degree with 2 years teaching experience and 2 years supervising staff. OR Child Development Associate Credential with 2 years teaching experience and 2 years supervising staff. Those with an Associate’s or CDA will be required to have a plan of study to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree. Requirements are based on OCFS Site Director Requirements.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance - Authorized to work in the United States.

Summary/Objective- In conjunction with the Preschool Administrative Team, direct the planning, development, and execution of preschool programing.

Essential Functions – Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Oversee daily operations of all preschool classrooms and wrap around childcare

  • Maintain compliance with New York State Education Department (NYSED) 4410 regulations, Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) child care regulations, Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) requirements and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

  • Supervise teachers, teachers’ aides and administrative support specialists

  • Conduct classroom observations and provide coaching and mentoring

  • Responsible for recruitment, onboarding, orientation and retention of staff

  • Coordinate staff schedules and classroom coverage

  • Maintain documentation of licensing visits, audits and monitoring

  • Ensure required staff training and certifications remain current

  • Support emergency preparedness, evacuation drills and incident reporting

  • Support implementation of curriculum aligned with the NYS Early Learning Standards

  • Monitor lesson planning and child assessments

  • Ensure implementation of Individuated Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with the Special Education Coordinator and related service providers

  • Monitor enrollment and classroom capacity

  • Promote inclusive educational practices for children with and without disabilities

  • Support accreditation and quality improvements initiatives

  • Provided leadership in curriculum instructional practices and professional development including design and delivery of training to support staff competency and program effectiveness

Travel - Minimal travel is required between counties for various meetings.

Work Environment – The position operates out of the Bright Beginnings Early Learning Center and may require lifting of children, playing with students on the floor or outside. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
