Full job description

Construction & Facilities Manager

Location: Albany, NY or Dallas, TX

About xLight

xLight is building the world's most powerful laser to revolutionize semiconductor lithography, metrology, and for other critical applications. Our approach harnesses the power of free-electron lasers, building on accelerator technology in use globally at scientific user facilities. Extending this technology, we are developing industrial-grade light sources, engineered for continuous operation, to meet the sophisticated demands of next-generation patterning, metrology, and inspection applications. Join us in this new revolution.

At xLight, we hire exceptional talent — and exceptional means more than a strong résumé. How we achieve results is just as important as the results themselves, which is why attitude and character matter as much as technical skill. We believe great talent is widely distributed, not confined to a particular school or background. We seek individuals who demonstrate ownership, a spirit of collaboration, technical curiosity, and a genuine willingness to learn and grow — guided by our core values of Respect, Integrity, Creativity, and Engineering Excellence. We don't just hire for what someone can do today. We hire for who they are and who they are becoming.

What We Need — and Why It Matters

xLight is in an active phase of facility expansion to support accelerator assembly, high-power laser integration, and manufacturing scale-up. This role will own construction safety on-site in NY and TX — managing contractor safety, coordinating with the City Building & Fire departments, and ensuring ongoing OSHA Title 8 compliance for all construction activities. Once the facility build-out phase is complete, the role transitions into general facilities safety: industrial hygiene, ergonomics, fire protection, and day-to-day operational safety support for the facility and manufacturing floor by a team of local specialist.

What You'll Do

Construction Safety Management

  • Serve as xLight's on-site safety representative for all construction, renovation, and facility improvement projects

  • Develop and enforce Construction Health and Safety Plans (CHASPs) and Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs)

  • Conduct daily/weekly construction site safety inspections; document and resolve findings

  • Pre-qualify contractors for safety performance; conduct contractor safety orientations and tool-box talks

  • Interface with general contractors, subcontractors, and AHJs (City Building & Fire, OSHA)

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with OSHA Construction Safety Orders for all project activities

  • Manage permitting, inspections, and close-out documentation in coordination with the City and AHJs

  • Identify and control construction-phase hazards in manufacturing and installation environments: work-near-energized-equipment, confined space, fall protection, hot work, crane/rigging

Facilities Safety (Ongoing)

  • Develop and own xLight's fire protection program: fire extinguisher program, hot work permits, sprinkler system compliance

  • Manage Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program for facility maintenance activities

  • Conduct ergonomic assessments for lab and manufacturing workstations

  • Maintain the Hazard Communication (HazCom) program and chemical inventory for the facility

  • Coordinate with facilities management on building permit compliance, occupancy classification, and life safety system testing

Emergency Preparedness

  • Develop and maintain site Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and evacuation procedures

  • Coordinate fire drills, first-aid training, and emergency response drills

  • Serve as a liaison to local Fire Department for pre-fire planning and inspections

What We Are Looking For

  • BS in construction management, occupational safety, civil/mechanical engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 1 5+ years of construction safety experience on complex industrial, research laboratory, or critical infrastructure projects

  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA Construction Safety Orders 29 CFR 1926

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification

  • Experience managing multi-trade contractor safety on active research or industrial facilities

  • Competent Person designation in fall protection, scaffold, excavation, or confined space (at least two categories)

And If You Bring This — Even Better

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP)

  • Experience working on laboratory or cleanroom construction projects in a semi-conductor facility, , national lab, or university setting

  • HAZWOPER 40-Hour certification

  • Familiarity with NFPA 45 (Fire Protection for Laboratories Using Chemicals) and NFPA 55 (Compressed Gases)

  • First Aid / CPR / AED instructor or coordinator experience
