Job Description

SHIFT/HOURS: 2nd shift/Monday-Friday, 3pm to 11:30pm

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for all aspects of vehicles, tools, and equipment maintenance/repair in accordance with established manufacturer standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Routinely required to interact/communicate with diverse customers and respond to inquiries and complaints in a polite professional manner.

Responsible for the safe preparation of job sites to include all safety measures, vehicle/equipment placement and associated work activities.

Executes preventive, scheduled and corrective maintenance on all assigned vehicles and equipment including but not limited to gasoline, electric and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, cooling systems, brake systems, tires, air conditioning, oil changes etc.

Executes mechanical and electrical vehicle, tools and equipment diagnostic and troubleshooting procedures to identify malfunctions.

Responsible for basic welding work activities.

Responsible for research and identification of all parts information and associated inventories.

Executes all necessary repairs, adjustments and follow up testing to ensure safe operation of vehicles, tools and equipment.

Report vehicle, tools and equipment irregularities to the Fleet Services Supervisor.

Responsible for the direction, oversight and when applicable training of assigned personnel.

Routinely required to perform assignments inside and outside of residential, commercial, industrial and public properties.

Responsible for direction, oversight and when applicable training of all assigned personnel.

Utilizes company owned tools and equipment required of the position.

Operates a company owned vehicle to assigned work locations.

Responds to overtime needs as prescribed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and work area guidelines.

Responsible for cleaning and maintaining all assigned vehicles, tools and equipment.

Responsible for cleanliness of community work areas, break rooms, kitchens, locker rooms parking areas etc.

Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works daily in an outdoor environment with exposure to various weather conditions.

Routinely exposed to extreme temperatures, potentially dangerous vehicle/equipment, moving parts, grease oil etc.

Works daily in an environment that includes vehicle, equipment, and pedestrian traffic.

Works daily in cramped/confined areas utilizing tools and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a valid driver's license from state of residence; possess and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have the ability to acquire the Class A CDL within 4 months if awarded this position.

Garage Mechanic B must possess a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) and must have completed the Automotive Technology or Diesel Mechanic program from an accredited technical school/college with a certificate or associate degree and possess a minimum of two (2) years of related experience in diagnosing, repairing and maintaining vehicles, equipment and tools; or possess a High School Diploma or GED and possess a minimum of five (5) years related experience in diagnosing , repairing and maintaining vehicles , equipment and tools.

Garage Mechanic B must obtain four (4) approved Automotive Service Excellence certifications within twelve (12) months of the position's start date.

Must possess a full understanding and adhere to all applicable OSHA safety standards/regulations.

Must possess a full understanding and adhere to all safety policies/procedures and guidelines.

Must possess basic computer skills that include but are not limited to email, intranet, corporate information systems etc.

Must have the ability to understand and fully utilize any/all digitized maintenance/facility record keeping software and other forms of digitized record keeping and/or communications.

TESTS, CERTIFICATIONS, PROFESSIONAL LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have the ability to acquire the Class A CDL within 4 monthsif awarded this position.

Garage Mechanic B four (4) ASE certifications to be obtained within twelve (12) months of start date; A5-Automatove Brakes, A6 or T6 Electrical/Electronic Systems, T4-Heavy Truck Brakes, T8-Preventive Maintenance Inspection.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have the ability to carry fifty (50) pounds for a distance of one hundred (100) feet.

Must have the ability to lift/maneuver seventy-five (75) pounds for a distance of twenty-five (25) feet.

Must have the ability to walk long distances on uneven surfaces.

Must have the ability to make precise arm-hand movements applicable to all tools and equipment required for the position.

Must have the ability to climb ladders and steps.
