Job Title: Dishwasher / Food Service Porter

Job Description

This role supports a busy campus dining operation by ensuring clean, sanitized dishware and a well-maintained dining environment. You help keep service running smoothly by clearing and resetting tables, washing dishes and kitchenware, and assisting with general cleaning and basic foodservice support tasks. Training is provided, making this an excellent opportunity to start or grow a career in foodservice.

Responsibilities

• Promptly clear, clean, and reset tables during busy service times to prepare for the next guests.

• Sweep and prepare floors before service to maintain a clean and safe dining area.

• Follow safety protocols when transporting dishes and utensils from the dining area to the kitchen using trays, bus tubs, or carts.

• Wash dishes, glasses, pots, and other kitchenware while maintaining sanitation standards and supporting a smooth flow of service.

• Scrape and rinse food residue from dishes, washing them by hand or using dishwashing machines as appropriate.

• Keep display equipment and service stations clean and compliant with safety and sanitation standards during meal service.

• Assist in receiving and moving heavy deliveries, using safe lifting practices at all times.

• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall dining and kitchen operations.

Essential Skills

• Ability to follow safety and sanitation protocols consistently in a foodservice environment.

• Capability to perform physical tasks such as standing for extended periods, lifting, carrying, and moving dishware and supplies.

• Attention to detail when cleaning and resetting tables, washing dishes, and maintaining equipment.

• Basic customer service skills to support a positive dining experience for guests.

• Willingness to learn and follow instructions, with training provided for all key tasks.

• Reliability and punctuality to support busy meal service times.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• No prior experience required; comprehensive on-the-job training is provided.

• Previous customer service or foodservice experience is a plus.

• Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume dining environment.

• Ability to work cooperatively with kitchen, service, and facilities staff.

• Interest in developing a long-term career in foodservice or hospitality is beneficial.

Work Environment

This role is based on-site at a university campus within a busy foodservice operation. You work primarily in the kitchen and dining areas, using dishwashing machines, bus tubs, carts, and cleaning equipment to support meal service. The environment is fast-paced and active, requiring frequent standing, walking, lifting, and carrying. You collaborate closely with culinary and service staff and follow established safety and sanitation procedures to maintain a clean, organized, and compliant facility.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Eureka, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
