About Maritime

Western New York Maritime Charter School is a military-style public charter school focused on academic excellence, leadership development, character, and structure. Our classrooms are not passive environments, they are structured, high-expectation settings where teachers lead with clarity, consistency, and purpose.

We are not looking for teachers who "hope" to manage behavior. We are looking for professionals who own the room, set the standard, and enforce it every day.

Who We Are Looking For

This is not a role for someone who struggles with classroom management or needs constant support to maintain order.

We are seeking a teacher who:

  • Establishes clear expectations from day one and holds the line

  • Can manage a classroom with consistency, urgency, and presence

  • Understands that structure creates safety and learning

  • Is comfortable in a high-accountability, no-excuses environment

  • Builds strong relationships, but does not sacrifice standards to do it

  • Thrives in a team that expects alignment, not autonomy without accountability

If you believe classroom management is "relationship-based only" without structure and enforcement, this is not the right fit.

Qualifications

  • Valid New York State Certification (Earth Science/Earth and Space Science 7-12 or equivalent)

  • NYSED Fingerprint Clearance

  • Strong working knowledge of NYS Science Standards (MTSS-I)

Core Responsibilities

  • Deliver tight, well-structured instruction aligned to NYS standards

  • Execute clear routines and procedures daily, no inconsistencies

  • Maintain a classroom where:

  • Students are on task

  • Expectations are visible and enforced

  • Disruptions are addressed immediately and professionally

  • Use data to drive instruction, not guesswork

  • Hold students accountable for:

  • Work completion

  • Behavior

  • Academic progress

  • Communicate consistently with families and staff

  • Contribute to a schoolwide culture of discipline, respect, and urgency

Non-Negotiables

  • You show up prepared, every day

  • You follow school systems and protocols with fidelity

  • You address behavior in the moment, not later

  • You do not ignore low-level disruption

  • You maintain professional standards in dress, communication, and conduct

What Success Looks Like

  • Students are engaged, structured, and learning

  • Your classroom runs on predictable systems, not personality

  • You can walk out of the room and expectations still hold

  • Academic results show measurable growth

  • You are aligned with the mission, not working against it

Preferred Traits

  • Command presence without being overbearing

  • Direct communicator

  • Maintains composure under pressure and responds with solutions, not excuses.

  • Team-first mindset

  • Relentless consistency

Why Maritime

  • Strong leadership support with clear expectations

  • Structured environment that reduces chaos

  • Mission-driven work with real impact

  • Opportunity to be part of a school that is building something that works
