Job Title: Survey Crew ChiefJob Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Survey Crew Chief to conduct field surveys, including topographic, boundary, and utility surveys. The successful candidate will determine the locations of natural and man-made features, both above and below ground, and their relationships to right-of-way and boundary lines.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys including topographic, boundary, and utility surveys.

  • Lay out grids and determine horizontal and vertical controls.

  • Prepare survey sites and remove necessary obstacles such as debris and brush.

  • Operate survey instruments like robotic total stations, data collectors, laser scanners, and GPS.

  • Interpret construction plans and perform necessary field calculations.

  • Create legible and accurate field notes.

  • Upload and download data files and photographs.

  • Set up, maintain, and operate all field survey equipment, vehicles, and supplies.

  • Ensure all work is performed safely and responsibly in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of experience as a surveyor or survey Crew Chief.

  • Experience with construction staking/layouts.

  • Proficiency in boundary and topographic surveys.

  • Experience with Leica or Trimble Robotic Total Stations, laser scanners, GPS, and data collectors.

  • Ability to review and understand civil construction and architectural plans and specifications.

  • Proficiency in basic mathematical and trigonometric calculations.

  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions.

  • Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience is a plus.

  • Experience with Survey CAD.

  • Experience in both private and public sector projects.

  • MDOT project experience.

  • Ability to obtain a Professional Surveyor License.

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Civil, Construction, or a related field.

Work Environment

The role involves heavy field work in varying weather conditions, with work hours ranging between 45-50 hours per week, including some weekends. The position offers flexible work hours, and a company truck is provided for transportation to project sites. Majority of the time will be spent on job sites, with occasional meetings in local Metro Detroit offices.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bloomfield Hills, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
