Interim School Nutrition Services Manager - John Hersey High School
The School Nutrition Services Manager implements Child Nutrition Programs in an individual school according to District 214 policies, procedures and methods, in an organized and efficient manner while working within budget constraints. The Manager must have excellent supervisory skills and be able to instill in the employees a sense of team spirit and the desire to do a good job; maintain high standards of food preparation, food sanitation and safety; and keep careful records of cash, food, supplies and equipment.
Managers for School District 214 are working managers. This means as needed, they work with staff preparing food, serving food, putting away inventory, and cleaning.
Length of Contract: To be determined Effective Date of Appointment: July 28, 2026
Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum 5 years management experience for a large scale commercial or institutional food service operation is preferred. Degree from an accredited college in dietetics, hospitality or culinary management is preferred. Computer literacy is required including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Department of Public Health Food Service Sanitation License. Experience in food production. Cross train employees on all positions in kitchen. Ability to communicate with parents, students, staff, and food service administration. Specific Duties:
Train, supervise, direct, motivate, discipline, and evaluate employees and maintain a good working environment. Control food, labor and other costs within established budgets. Maintain the highest standards of sanitation and safety according to HACCP principles, the State of Illinois, and Local Health Departments. Responsible for training staff in food preparation, food sanitation, customer service, and the safe and proper use of equipment. Prepare daily food production and work rotation schedule. Responsible for preparing a la carte and catering menu ideas, as well as monitor a successful a la carte, catering and vending program. Maintain accurate and timely records including but not limited to the Profit and Loss, Production Sheets, Inventories, Food and Supply Orders, and Attendance Records. Actively promote and market the food service program to students, staff and the community. Attend monthly meeting with other school nutriction managers and director of food service. Continual attendance at professional development meetings as scheduled. Coordinate summer school food service program as scheduled or necessary. Coordinate and supervise catered events, which may include evenings and weekends.
