Full job description

We are looking for one (1) Permit and Code Compliance Coordinator to join our Jones. This position can be office, hybrid or remote depending on the individuals' level of experience which is why it is posted in multiple cities.

Commercial Sign industry experience highly desirable.

Position Summary

Jones is seeking a detail-oriented and highly self-motivated Permit & Code Compliance Coordinator to serve as a critical link between our internal teams, clients, property owners, and municipal agencies throughout the United States and Canada.

In this role, you will research, interpret, and apply municipal sign codes and zoning regulations to support a wide range of national and local signage projects. You will work closely with Project Management, Sales, Design, Engineering, and external stakeholders to ensure projects meet regulatory requirements while helping clients achieve their branding and business objectives.

The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator, analytical problem solver, and confident negotiator who enjoys navigating complex regulations and finding practical solutions for our client’s needs. Success in this position requires a combination of independent research, strong organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented environment, municipal staff and regulatory authorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, analyze, and interpret municipal sign regulations, zoning ordinances, and related code requirements for assigned projects.

  • Prepare comprehensive code compliance reports and provide recommendations for sign allowances and permitting strategies.

  • Obtain required permits and approvals for sign installations across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Review property owner sign criteria, municipal regulations, and project requirements to ensure compliance.

  • Evaluate permit applications, site plans, shop drawings, and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact with municipalities, regulatory agencies, and public officials regarding code and permitting matters.

  • Advocate on behalf of clients by communicating and negotiating project requirements with municipal staff and regulatory authorities.

  • Coordinate and attend variance hearings, zoning meetings, and other regulatory proceedings as required.

  • Provide timely responses to internal and external inquiries related to sign codes, permits, and compliance matters.

  • Stay informed of industry trends, legislative updates, and changes to municipal sign regulations and ordinances.

  • Participate in internal and external meetings as needed.

  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Minimum of two years of experience in a professional office environment.

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas preferred:

  • Paralegal or legal support

  • Regulatory compliance

  • Contract review or negotiation

  • Technical writing

  • Zoning administration

  • Municipal planning or permitting

  • Related regulatory or administrative fields

  • Experience interpreting municipal ordinances, zoning regulations, and code requirements is strongly preferred.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), Teams, Smartsheet, Outlook, and mapping applications.

  • Self-directed, resourceful, and capable of working independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
