Project Manager

Data Center Construction Project

Position Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, execution, financial management, and successful delivery of large-scale data center construction projects. This individual serves as the primary leader overseeing project budgets, schedules, subcontractor performance, procurement, client relationships, quality control, and risk management throughout the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with experience managing complex mission-critical construction projects in fast-paced environments. Working closely with owners, design teams, field leadership, and subcontractors, the Project Manager ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Oversight

Lead all aspects of project execution from preconstruction through project closeout.

Develop and implement project strategies to meet schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives.

Provide leadership and direction to project engineers, assistant project managers, superintendents, and support staff.

Coordinate project activities among owners, architects, engineers, consultants, vendors, and subcontractors.

Maintain accountability for overall project performance and client satisfaction.

Budget Management & Cost Control

Develop, manage, and maintain project budgets and forecasts.

Monitor project costs and productivity to ensure financial targets are achieved.

Review contracts, purchase orders, invoices, and subcontractor pay applications.

Manage change orders, cost impacts, contingency spending, and project forecasts.

Identify financial risks and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Prepare and present financial reports to internal leadership and clients.

Schedule Management

Oversee project schedules and ensure key milestones are achieved.

Coordinate procurement, subcontractor activities, and construction sequencing to support project timelines.

Identify schedule risks and develop recovery plans when required.

Monitor long-lead equipment, material deliveries, and procurement activities.

Facilitate schedule update meetings and communicate project progress to stakeholders.

Client & Stakeholder Management

Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and key stakeholders.

Lead owner meetings, project reviews, and executive progress updates.

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and business partners.

Manage client expectations and proactively address project concerns.

Ensure timely communication of project status, risks, and solutions.

Contract Administration

Review and manage owner contracts, subcontract agreements, and vendor commitments.

Oversee RFI, submittal, and change management processes.

Ensure compliance with contractual requirements and project specifications.

Manage project documentation and support dispute resolution when necessary.

Coordinate project closeout requirements and turnover documentation.

Construction Operations Management

Work closely with superintendents and field teams to monitor daily construction activities.

Evaluate manpower utilization, subcontractor performance, and construction productivity.

Support procurement, logistics, and material management efforts.

Coordinate construction activities to optimize safety, quality, and schedule performance.

Help resolve field issues and remove obstacles affecting project progress.

Quality & Safety Leadership

Promote a culture of safety and quality across all project activities.

Ensure compliance with company safety programs, project quality plans, and regulatory requirements.

Participate in quality reviews, inspections, commissioning activities, and project audits.

Monitor corrective actions and resolution of project deficiencies.

Support successful project turnover and client acceptance.

Risk Management

Identify project risks related to schedule, budget, labor, procurement, and project execution.

Develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans.

Monitor project metrics and proactively address emerging issues.

Escalate significant risks to leadership when appropriate.

Lead lessons-learned reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.

5+ years of construction project management experience.

Experience managing commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or data center projects.

Strong understanding of construction methods, contracts, scheduling, budgeting, and project controls.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.

Preferred Qualifications

Direct data center or mission-critical construction experience.

Experience managing projects exceeding $50M in construction value.

Proficiency with Procore, Autodesk Build, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, BIM 360, or similar platforms.

OSHA 30 certification.

Experience leading multidisciplinary construction teams.

Knowledge of commissioning and project turnover processes.
