Job Description:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma/GED and one (1) year of work-related experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree and Two (2) years of related work experience. Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis. Experience working in administration within Financial Aid Office. Experience in Banner Financial Aid Module.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Technician serves as the first point of contact for students inquiring about financial aid. This position is primarily based at the Griffin Campus and may be required to work at any Southern Crescent Technical College campus as needed.

Duties will include but not limited to:

  • Helping students apply for all types of aid and providing updates on the status of their applications:
  • Responsible for opening and/or closing the Office of Financial Aid each day
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing: interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Experience in delivering excellent, professional customer service, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Responsible for performing administrative, clerical, and customer service duties in support of the Office of Financial Aid:
  • Professionally disseminate general Financial Aid information to students and the general public:
  • Provide information regarding Financial Aid resources available to students and parents:
  • Evaluate Financial Aid applications and supporting documents for accuracy, clarity. and completeness to determine basic eligibility for Financial Aid:
  • Update appropriate BANNER forms and other Financial Aid Software related to the document intake process.
  • Instruct students in correct procedures for completing forms and applications.
  • Analyze and determines the status of applications and forms and refer complex situations to the appropriate Financial Aid Specialist
  • Manage the Office of Financial Aid email account. front desk telephones, and Engage ticketing system
  • Demonstrates a positive, inclusive, and welcoming disposition.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Any other related duties.

COMPETENCIES: Knowledge of student Financial Aid processes and procedures: knowledge of State and Federal Financial Aid programs, regulations, and guidelines; skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs: skill in interpersonal relations and effectively communicating with internal and external customers.

SALARY: Salary commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, paid annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program.
