Benefits Coordinator

The Benefits Coordinator administers and supports the District's employee benefits programs by serving as the first point of contact for employees and retirees to include employee technical support and education. This position works collaboratively with Human Resources, Payroll, Finance, and the Health Benefits Committee to ensure accurate administration, regulatory compliance, effective communication, and positive employee experience.

Some of what you will do:

  • Timely and service focused response to phone calls and emails regarding District insurance benefits. Assist employees in understanding and navigating available benefit programs.

  • Assist staff, beneficiaries, retirees, and insurance providers with verifying eligibility, conveying information, and processing claims.

  • Processing employees benefit forms, including determining eligibility based on qualifying life events. Coordinate enrollment updates with Payroll to ensure accurate and timely deductions.

  • Timely and accurate reconciliation of claims and payments of providers in compliance with contract provisions.

  • Perform calculation of Long-term disability deductions for payroll during open enrollment and qualifying events as needed.

  • Compose and prepare a variety of materials such as letters, reports, minutes, and data. Maintain records and documentation necessary for audits, compliance, and reporting requirements.

  • Coordinate logistics, communications, and materials for Health Benefits Committee meetings.

  • Prepare reports, presentations, and supporting documentation for committee review as needed.

  • Support benefit planning, analysis, and decision-making activities through data collection and organization.

  • Partner with benefit consultants, vendors and Health Benefits Committee to support effective program administration.

  • Coordinate implementation of benefit plan changes, annual enrollment activities, and communication efforts.

  • Provide first point of contact support for the HR Office. Answer phones and greet customers; assist with a variety of questions and direct customers to the appropriate resources.

  • Partner with HR Director and Communications Specialist to maintain HR Department webpage.

  • Support background checks for employees, volunteers, and substitutes.

  • Assist with monitoring leave in A&S; addressing questions on protected leave and insurance coverage.

Who we are looking for:

  • Associate's degree (or equivalent coursework) in public administration, accounting, human resources or closely related field and two years professional experience with employee benefits, claims processing, insurance administration or related field. Or a combination of education experiences as determined by the district.

  • Strong computer skills to include accurate data entry and ten-key.

  • Strong data analysis skills with attention to detail.

Preferred qualifications:

  • HR Certification (SHRM, HRCI, etc.)

  • Notary Public preferred (willing to obtain and maintain current required)

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field.

  • Knowledge of benefit compliance regulations (FMLA, HIPAA, etc.)

  • Experience with Tyler Technologies/School ERP Pro (HRIS)
