Job Description:

The Georgia Department of Driver Services, Regulatory Compliance Division, is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Safety and Compliance Specialist within its CDL Fraud Prevention Section.

Under limited supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for all facets of the initial and ongoing certification requirements of Commercial Vehicle Driver Training School Owners and Instructors, as well as State CDL Examiners and Third Party CDL Examiners throughout the State of Georgia; including, but not limited to; auditing and monitoring all CDL regulated programs, instructors, and Examiners within his or her area of assignment to ensure compliance with federal regulations, agency rules and state law. Will be expected to interpret and maintain knowledge of amendments to state, federal and other regulations. The incumbent will also:

  • Establish and implement a data collection instrument for use within the CDL Unit to collect and analyze monitoring events for each site.

  • Utilize the baseline data to increase compliance rates by five percent each year.

  • Identify schools, instructors, testers and examiners with low compliance rates for a closer review.

  • Conduct audits of schools, instructors, testers or examiners suspected of fraud or mismanagement when referred by CDL examiner monitors.

  • Prepare formal Audit Reports for submission to Management in preparation for a decision regarding any potential adverse action.

  • Work cooperatively with management for a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) for the school, instructor or examiner;

  • Ensure a CAP response is received from the school, instructor or manager;

  • Identify topics or activities needed Statewide for additional training and assist with CDL training events

Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for responding to management and customer inquiries in a professional and timely manner, in accordance with the core values of the Department of Driver Services. The incumbent will be expected to maintain a positive attitude and be receptive to change in a fast-paced environment.

The incumbent will be responsible for investigating customer complaints, presenting his or her finding to management, and making recommendations to management on the most appropriate course of action. The incumbent will be expected to serve on task teams and workgroups. The incumbent will be expected to develop strong partnerships between the Division and its internal and external business partners. The incumbent will be expected to assist with training events, certifications classes, and community outreach efforts.

Conditions of Employment:

In-state travel is required for employees in this job. Week long, overnight travel is also required. Selected candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and have the ability to travel statewide. Selected applicant must also be able to physically maneuver under commercial vehicles of all types to conduct vehicle inspections. This position will also involve bending, lifting, and fueling commercial vehicles, performing outdoor activities, working in inclement weather, working holidays, and working around moving vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of job-related experience in the commercial driving industry operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), making determinations for eligibility or compliance based on federal or state rule or law, analyzing customer behavior to identify fraudulent patterns, etc.; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Safety & Complnc Spec 1 (RCP010) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require a valid driver's license. Note: Some positions may require certification and/or licensure.

OR

  • Associates degree in related fields such as business administration, criminal justice, data analytics, accounting, loss prevention, etc. from an accredited college

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  • Georgia Class A CDL and/or Class B CDL with P and S endorsements

  • Experience driving a commercial motor vehicle
