Job Description:

Location: San Francisco/Hybrid

Employment Type: Contractor full-time, convertible to salaried full-time.

Scope & Ownership

Owns product life and materials support across the engine: component life (LCF / HCF / creep / oxidation), materials & processes (M&P) and materials science, and general FEA / ANSYS 'surge' capacity for the subsystem teams. Crossover: lifing↔structures↔thermal across all subsystems.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor"s in Mechanical, Aerospace or Materials Engineering

  • Master"s or PhD preferred

Experience

  • 4-8 years in component life / durability or materials & processes, or a relevant PhD plus ~2 years

  • Component life calculations for static and rotating parts (fatigue, creep, oxidation)

Skill Requirements

  • LCF / HCF / creep / oxidation life methods; fracture mechanics

  • Materials selection, processes and qualification

  • NASGRO, fracture mechanics fatigue analysis

  • FEA (ANSYS); probabilistic life methods; Python/Matlab

Responsibilities

  • Interface with Responsible Engineers to provide inputs for design, generate predictions for candidate designs, and ensure that REs have a clear understanding of the physical phenomena they are dealing with

  • Prepare, run, and post-process relevant simulation models including FEA, CFD, and Heat Transfer as applicable

  • Analyze test, qualification, and field data in collaboration with REs to qualify hardware and maintain fleet reliability

  • Drive simplicity into the analysis stack by developing simplified and reduced-order models that conservatively capture physical phenomena at the minimum level of complexity that enables functional hardware
