Full job description

The Pittsford Central School District is seeking School Nurse candidates for the 2026–2027 school year at the St. Louis School. The successful candidate will work 7.5 hours a day, 198 work-days a year, as a 10-month employee. This is a professional nursing position which involves providing emergency first aid treatment, performing screening/testing procedures, maintaining medical records and acting as a resource person in disseminating health-related information to students, parents, administrators and the faculty.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: May include but not limited to:

  • Maintain and update cumulative health records for all students in the building, including immunization data

  • Conduct pertinent and relevant health, hearing, and vision screening and assist in physical examinations

  • Participate in an intervention program for recurring illness and other health-related problems

  • Evaluate school-related injuries and complete district insurance forms

  • Provide first aid and emergency treatment of injuries and illness of students and faculty

  • Advise parents on student needs or for additional medical attention

  • Dispense medication as ordered by a physician and requested by a parent in accordance with New York State Law

  • Order, inventory and oversee the storage of first aid and related health supplies and equipment

  • Act as a liaison between physicians, faculty, students and parents when there is a health problem

  • Maybe a member of a building or district health support team(s)

Job Qualifications

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

The successful candidate must possess:

  • Good knowledge of nursing theory, principles and procedures

  • Good knowledge of the physical, mental, emotional and social health problems of elementary and secondary school pupils

  • Good knowledge of counseling techniques

  • Good knowledge of community health programs

  • Good knowledge of record maintenance

  • Good knowledge of health screening procedures

  • Ability to provide first aid and emergency treatment

  • Ability to handle confidential records and information

  • Tact; good judgment; integrity; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a current New York State License as a Registered Nurse.
