As an Ingalls Outside Machinist – Skilled, you are part of a highly trained team responsible for installing, aligning, repairing, and testing the mechanical systems that keep our ships moving. From propelling machinery and reduction gears to pumps, steering systems, and auxiliary equipment, your work ensures operational readiness, safety, and long‑term performance.

What You Can Earn

  • Earn up to $35.99 per hour , depending on experience and skill level.

  • Additional opportunities for overtime, training, and long‑term advancement.

What You’ll Do

  • Install, align, and repair ship machinery including propelling machinery, pumps, motors, ventilation equipment, and steering gear.

  • Work from blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to complete precision mechanical installations.

  • Lay out passage holes on bulkheads, decks, and structural surfaces for the installation of shafting, steam lines, and related systems.

  • Align reduction gears, bearings, shafting, propellers, rudders, and steering engine assemblies.

  • Use hand tools, calipers, micrometers, and alignment instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability.

  • Support ship construction across diverse shipyard environments and be available to work any shift in a 24/7 manufacturing operation.

Must Have

Must have experience as an Outside Machinist or equivalent.

Nice to Have

Prior shipyard experience as an Outside Machinist.
