Steam Turbine Mechanic / Rotating Equipment Technician

Pay: $26-30 + DEO

Position Summary

The Steam Turbine Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, overhaul, and installation of steam turbines and related rotating equipment. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with turbines, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, motors, and other industrial rotating machinery. The ideal candidate will ensure equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and support safe and efficient plant operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of steam turbines and associated rotating equipment.

  • Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble turbines, pumps, compressors, blowers, gearboxes, and motors.

  • Conduct precision measurements using micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and laser alignment equipment.

  • Perform shaft alignments, balancing, vibration analysis, and equipment commissioning activities.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, OEM manuals, and technical specifications.

  • Inspect bearings, seals, couplings, rotors, and other critical components for wear and damage.

  • Assist with outage planning, turbine overhauls, and major maintenance projects.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures and recommend corrective actions.

  • Maintain detailed maintenance records and complete work documentation accurately.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, and company policies.

  • Work collaboratively with maintenance, operations, engineering, and contractor personnel.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school training preferred.

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience maintaining steam turbines and industrial rotating equipment.

  • Strong knowledge of turbine components, mechanical systems, and rotating machinery principles.

  • Experience with precision alignment, balancing, vibration monitoring, and condition-based maintenance.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical documentation.

  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance technologies and reliability-centered maintenance practices.

  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication systems.

  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and outage schedules as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in power generation, petrochemical, refinery, manufacturing, or industrial facilities.

  • Millwright certification or equivalent mechanical trade experience.

  • Experience with major OEM equipment such as Siemens, GE, Elliott, Dresser-Rand, Mitsubishi, or Solar Turbines.

  • Familiarity with vibration analysis and predictive maintenance software.
