Full job description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base(DIB) & Major Range & Test Facilities base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a TERM position located at Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM), Watervliet Arsenal, Installation Management Directorate, Public Works Division, Watervliet NY. Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision which included: (1) Install, maintain, and repair industrial, commercial and/or residential air conditioning and refrigeration systems; (2) Install, repair and maintain basic heating equipment and/or systems, such as oil fueled heaters, hot air furnaces, heating boilers and other systems and equipment; and (3) Diagnose and locate malfunctions on air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 44 pounds unassisted and over 44 pounds with assistance. Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, or cramped areas where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Work requires frequent stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions for long periods. In addition, work involves frequent movement and maneuvering of large, heavy equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee works indoors and outdoors, on elevated structures, and in cramped areas. Subject to discomfort from face masks or other protective devices when these is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants, noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Subject to possible burns from refrigerants. Works near moving parts of equipment and machinery energized electrical circuits, sharp metal edges, loud noises, and toxic fumes, which could cause cuts, burns, and respiratory ailments. May be subject to sudden and frequent temperature changes. May be required to wear safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, ear protection and hard hats. Employee is required to follow occupational and safety procedures to eliminate or minimize these conditions and may be required to wear respiratory devices or protective clothing and equipment, which may be restrictive and uncomfortable Determine causes of defects and malfunctions on assigned refrigeration and air conditioning systems and equipment. Determine repairs needed and repairs, adjusts, and replaces parts. Troubleshoot, repair, and install a variety of large commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning units. Perform related electrical, sheet metal, and carpentry installation and fabrication tasks, and/or small motor repair. Examine and conduct preventive maintenance of systems and components.
