Position Summary

Under general direction, protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities. Prevents illness and injury. Alleviates suffering through the diagnosis and treatment. Advocates for patients and their families. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care.

Position Responsibilities

Unit Specific Position Responsibilities

Establishes a caring relationship with patients, families, and other caregivers to facilitate coping and provide support.
-
Creates and enhances a positive environment that maintains a climate of dignity, privacy and respect for patients with cancer.

Complete required case studies and monthly rhythm strips.
-
Complete annual rhythm strip test.
-
Assess and anticipates patient needs for pain management to ensure acceptable pain management plan in place for discharge.
-
Care of devices and equipment secondary to surgical procedures.
-
Provides post-partum cares for mother/baby couplet.
-
Completes mandatory education requirements for all serviced nursing units.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
-
Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
-
Licensed as a Registered Nurse and authorized by the State of Iowa to practice nursing or has active multistate license approved by the Nurse Licensure Compact.
-
Achievement of Baccalaureate degree in nursing within 6 years of hire if hired after January 1, 2014.
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) training, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
-
Mandatory Reporter training or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
-
Basic Life Support training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
-
Basic EKG class completion with pass rate of at least 80% on exam within one year of hire.
-
Stroke education completed within one year of hire.
-
Cardiac Step Down class completion within one year of hire.
-
Certification in NIHSS within 9 months of hire.
-
CAPD class completion within one year of hire.
-
Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within one year of hire.

Combative Patient Response Team training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.

Organizational Requirements:

Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing.

Professional certification in nursing specialty.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Proficient in communication skills.

Ability to pursue and foster a sense of team and partnership across all disciplines.

Ability to communicate effectively, in English, with diverse population groups.

Ability to be self-directed, flexible, and able to adapt to change.

Ability to communicate effectively in a professional and tactful manner with physicians, staff, patients and/or their representatives.

Ability to read and understand chart documentation.

Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills.
