Clariant is currently looking for a Maintenance Superintendent - South Plant to support our Catalysts business unit at our Louisville, Kentucky facility. This position is responsible for leading the South Plant maintenance team and ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient execution of preventive, reactive, and minor project maintenance activities. Reporting to the South Plant Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Superintendent will lead a unionized team of approximately 11 maintenance technicians, including electrical and mechanical disciplines. This role is responsible for equipment uptime and mechanical availability, maintenance budget performance, schedule adherence, and supporting the site's safety and environmental objectives. The position works primarily on-site from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and requires availability to respond to maintenance needs outside of normal working hours when necessary. Responsibilities
Lead, supervise, and develop a team of maintenance technicians in the safe and efficient completion of preventive, reactive, shutdown, and minor project maintenance work.
Assign and prioritize work orders based on operational needs and established schedules, balancing equipment reliability, cost, available resources, and schedule adherence.
Review maintenance work requests, conduct field walk-downs, coordinate material requirements and contractors, audit work methods, and provide technical guidance and training to employees.
Monitor technician workloads, optimize available labor hours, minimize unnecessary overtime, approve employee timecards, and maintain required maintenance reports and records.
Monitor controllable maintenance costs and support adherence to the site's maintenance budget while effectively allocating internal and external resources.
Drive maintenance effectiveness and efficiency through continuous improvement, implementation of identified improvement opportunities, and coordinate with Production to minimize delays related to permits and equipment availability.
Champion safe work practices and ensure compliance with Clariant ESHA requirements, site safety and environmental standards, Management of Change (MOC) processes, and applicable regulatory requirements, with a goal of zero recordable injuries.
Provide hands-on maintenance support, planning and scheduling assistance, and leadership coverage as needed during complex maintenance situations, shutdowns, projects, vacations, absences, and after-hours maintenance events.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required; post-secondary trade school or technical college education strongly preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance or a related functional area, including experience leading or managing maintenance employees; experience supervising employees in a union/collective bargaining environment strongly preferred.
Strong mechanical aptitude and broad maintenance knowledge, with the technical capability and hands-on experience to support troubleshooting and complex maintenance situations when needed.
Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS); SAP Plant Maintenance (SAP PM) experience preferred. Experience with Kronos, Microsoft Office, project management, and continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma or 5S is also preferred.
Results-oriented and decisive leader with strong communication, problem-solving, relationship-building, and organizational skills; must be able to effectively manage competing priorities in a production environment and provide support outside of normal working hours when required.
