THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supervises highway maintenance crews, oversees project planning, and ensures work is completed safely and correctly. Your efforts will support daily operations by coordinating staff, equipment, and worksite procedures. As a Highway Foreman 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Crew Supervision:Direct maintenance crews and assign tasks for patching, drainage work, repairs, and emergency response

  • Project Planning:Plan schedules, select materials and equipment, and recommend work priorities based on roadway conditions

  • Training Oversight:Train employees in proper tool use, equipment handling, and maintenance procedures

  • Safety Management:Select traffic control setups, monitor work zones, and encourage actions that prevent accidents and injuries

  • Record Keeping:Maintain clear records of field activities and report injuries, unusual events, and equipment issues

  • Employee Leadership:Interview and select staff, evaluate performance, approve leave, and provide coaching and discipline when needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Summer hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position .

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $54,162.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Highway Foreman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) ;or

  • Two years of experience in the performance of lead work or skilled tradesman duties on a highway maintenance or construction project ;or

  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training .

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires p ossession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania Driver's License.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
