For the GS-04 position: Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general experience performing administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work that involved following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with coworkers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information, AND I have six months of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-03) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided knowledge of protective systems and techniques. For the GS-05 position: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Screening and/or inspecting personal and commercial vehicles requesting installation access using detection devices; 2) Controlling personnel access by verifying identification/credentials; 3) Patrolling buildings or perimeters for suspicious activity; and 4) Preparing reports of security incidents. General Experience (for positions at GS-4 and below): Experience such as administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work that involved following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with coworkers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information. Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. For Security Guard positions in a hospital setting, experience as a psychiatric nursing assistant or a similar position safeguarding patients is qualifying. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will serve as the senior member of the entry control/vehicle inspection team which conducts private and commercial vehicle inspections. You will control access and departures of vehicles and pedestrians in controlled areas to prevent unauthorized access. You will direct vehicles and pedestrian traffic during periods of emergency or increased traffic. You will furnish technical direction to an entry control team to properly perform vehicle inspections. You will inspect private and commercial vehicles to determine if safe to enter installation. You will assist personnel during an emergency situation (e.g., accidents, drills, fire, natural disasters, motor vehicle or industrial accidents, political demonstrations, hostage or terrorist situations) to protect the safety of life and property. Education In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: For The GS-04: Successful completion of at least two full academic years of education above high school OR A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. For the GS-05: No substitution of education may be made for the required specialized experience.
