Division : Within the Safety Department at ELMHS, Located in Jackson, LA

The Mission of ELMHS is to provide mental health evaluation, treatment, habilitation, and consultation for adults. Programs include inpatient interventions, jail-based evaluations, supervised group home and residential programs, forensic evaluation, care, custody, and aftercare; intermediate and long-term psychiatric services are coordinated with the total system of care in Louisiana

ELMHS is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented, and positive individual to join our team as aPolice Officer! The selected candidate will s erve as a campus law enforcement first responder , ensuring the safety and security of hospital grounds by responding to emergencies, conducting patrols, investigating incidents, enforcing traffic and parking regulations , and preparing detailed incident and daily activity reports.

Minimum Qualifications

No experience or training is required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

In this role, you will:

  • Serve as a first responder who is responsible for law enforcement and the safety on campus.

  • Provide emergency services by responding to assist calls and investigating accidents/incidents that occur on ELMHS Grounds.

  • Patrol hospital grounds to detect unusual activity, with also writing incident reports.

  • Prepare daily reports on all routine work, such as hourly rounds, building checks, sally ports, or gate entrances; confers with Police Sergeant as necessary.

  • Control and direct pedestrian and vehicular traffic by erecting, moving, and removing barricades, temporary signs, and ribbons for parking and traffic control and issues traffic citations and parking violations

  • Perform parking and traffic surveys, respond to various emergencies and problems that impact traffic control, and provide explanation of complex and unique traffic and parking regulations.
