Full job description

Job Duties

The Accounting Technician provides high quality customer service through interactions with Steele County residents, internal departments and various external entities. The Accounting Technician processes payments on behalf of the County and ensures accuracy of disbursements and receipts as well as prepares department payroll for processing. When not doing accounting work, the person who fills this role will assist all of public health with office and case aide related tasks. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assists in maintaining all departmental accounts receivable for patient and program health care services in conjunction with the Finance office:

o Codes receipts to the appropriate general ledger accounts and prepares deposits.

o Process health insurance remits in electronic health system.

  • Responsible for departmental accounts payable in conjunction with the Finance Office:

o Codes vouchers for vendor bills to coincide with specific program cost percentages.

o Verifies calculations and codes vouchers for contracted services and staff mileage and reimbursements.

o Reconciles credit card expenses and receipts.

  • Posts departmental payroll information in system.

  • Assist with inventory counts and putting inventory into tracking system.

  • Assist with entering and scanning client information into the electronic record.

  • Assist with chart audits and waiver vendor billing issues.

  • Assess client insurance eligibility.

  • Comply with the Code of Ethics for employees of the County, the Minnesota Data Privacy Act and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).

  • Performs general office, customer service and/or clerical duties within the department such as:

o Addresses customer questions over the phone or in person concerning department functions and operations.

o Maintains office records, files and records retention schedules.

o Provides backup support and assistance at front desk.

  • Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required.

Minimum Education Required

  • 2 year technical or associate degree with emphasis in: accounting, finance, business administration or related field

Minimum Experience Required

  • 2 years of accounting or billing experience

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Ability to pass a background check
