Job Summary:

To perform, under the responsibility and supervision of the physician, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to allow the physician to extend his services through the more effective use of his knowledge in the sphere of decision-making required to establish diagnosis and to plan therapy. He/she may assist in gathering the data necessary in implementing the therapeutic plan of the physician. A major role will be as a patient's advocate in the medical care system serving as confidant, advisor and liaison between patients and physicians.

Accountabilities :

  • • Assists the physician in the preoperative care and work-up of patients.

  • • Responsible for daily implementation of the patients plan and progression

  • • Participates in postoperative care of patients, being especially knowledgeable in the recognition of postoperative complications

  • • Performs therapeutic procedures and assignments as directed by the physician and as indicated by his/her training and experience

  • • Orders and interprets various diagnostic tests and formulates a treatment plan with the physician

  • • Provides counseling and education for patients and families

  • • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

  • • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Qualifications:

  • Accredited physician assistant or certified nurse practitioner program

  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • 2 years of experience required

  • BLS/CPR and/or ACLS as required by credentialing entity as a healthcare provider as per the AHA

  • National Board Certification
