Location: Must be located in and authorized to work within the United States (excluding Illinois and Texas).
-
Education: Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Virology, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or a closely related biological field (Master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience considered).
-
Subject-Matter Expertise: Demonstrated hands-on or research experience with biological risk assessment, biosafety practices, or biosecurity governance.
-
AI Safety Aptitude: Strong enthusiasm and comfort with hands-on prompt engineering, red-teaming, and evaluating LLM outputs.
-
Analytical Skills: Excellent scientific rigor, attention to detail, and ability to distinguish safe educational context from actionable dual-use risk.
-
Communication: Ability to articulate complex scientific risks clearly to technical AI safety and alignment teams. Preferred Qualifications
-
Knowledge of AI prompt engineering concepts and practices, including adversarial prompt writing
-
Familiarity with current frontier AI safety benchmarks, evaluation frameworks, and ethical guidelines for GenAI.
-
Expertise in one or more of the following biological risk areas:
-
Pathogen Analysis & Viromics: Deep understanding of high-consequence pathogens (e.g., Ebola, Smallpox, Influenza) and host-pathogen interactions.
-
Dual-Use Biotech & Genetic Modification: Hands-on or theoretical familiarity with CRISPR, synthetic biology, gene editing hazards, and gain-of-function research.
-
Toxin Research & Biomanufacturing: Practical knowledge of DNA/RNA synthesis screening protocols, toxin research, and bioreactor scale-up risks.
