Generac Home is hiring a Manufacturing Quality Engineer IV to serve as the technical manufacturing liaison between Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and selected manufacturing sites, including contract manufacturers. This role supports scale-readiness for a growing family of solar energy and battery storage products.

The successful candidate will support material, process, and contract manufacturer selection for next-generation products and lead quality efforts at qualified manufacturing locations to ensure delivery of high-quality products to customers.

This technical engineering role requires the use of quality tools and data-driven decision-making.

Travel up to 25–35% may be required.

The preferred location is South Portland, ME, with alternative locations in North Billerica, MA; Waukesha, WI; or Reno, NV. Salary will be based on experience and primary office location.

Major Responsibilities

  • Support supplier and contract manufacturer selection and development for high-reliability power electronics.

  • Develop and monitor performance metrics, drive corrective actions, and lead continuous improvement activities with contract manufacturers.

  • Develop requirements specifications and provide input on material and process selections for products manufactured by contract manufacturers.

  • Participate in DFMEA and DFM activities and support Process Flow, PFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, and process validation for new and existing products.

  • Qualify equipment installation and set-up in collaboration with contract manufacturing teams.

  • Lead SCAR activities related to manufacturing or material deficiencies at contract manufacturing locations.

  • Support effective implementation of engineering changes affecting products and production processes.

  • Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Testing teams on materials, process evaluation, and quality requirements.

  • Monitor adherence to quality and safety certification standards.

  • Lead cross-functional teams through complex manufacturing quality issues.

  • Coordinate and execute contract manufacturer process audits at defined intervals.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Industrial Technology or equivalent

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in manufacturing high-reliability electronic, electromechanical, or related products, with a focus on quality management in a contract manufacturing or electromechanical assembly environment.

  • Direct experience with electronic manufacturing and test processes.

  • Experience with solder chemistry and processing, electronics cleaning, cleanliness validation, conformal coating, and potting.

  • Experience facilitating and executing 8D, CAPA, and SCAR problem-solving processes.

  • Experience executing PPAP.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Strong quantitative skills with the ability to analyze data and communicate well-supported recommendations.

  • Knowledge of PCB design, materials, and manufacturing capabilities.

  • Ability to develop practical plans and solutions for complex manufacturing quality issues.

  • Knowledge of process and tooling validation, including PFMEA, DFM, Gage R&R, process studies, CPK, and CTQ definition and oversight.

  • Ability to manage defect trend data and drive continuous improvement.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional problem-solving efforts and influence stakeholders across multiple sites and functions.

Preferred Job Requirements

Education:

  • Power electronics, consumer electronics or commercial electronics background preferred

  • Experience working with international companies and in a matrix organization;

  • Proven experience collaborating with multiple sites and functions to drive common solutions.

  • Prior experience with hardware certification standards (e.g. UL1741)

  • Mechanical and thermal analysis

Certification / License

  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.

  • Six Sigma green or black belt preferred.

Generac is committed to fair and equity compensation practices. The salary range for this role based in S. Portland Maine is $121,400 - $157,800 and N. Billerica MA is $138,400 - $179,900. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidates relevant work experience, skills, certifications and geographic location. This role is eligible for variable compensation, including short term and long-term incentives.

This position includes a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans; life, long-term disability, flexible, spending and health savings accounts, accrued paid time off, eight paid holidays in 401(k) retirement benefits.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
