The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient, PRN supports medication distribution and pharmacy operations for Hillcrest Hospital and the Mentor campus, helping serve a diverse inpatient population across a wide range of specialty and critical care service lines. As part of a collaborative pharmacy team, caregivers receive cross-training in multiple operational areas, including medication preparation and distribution, automated carousel retrieval, medication delivery to patient care units, IV room support, sterile compounding preparation (as trained), neonatal medication calculations, inventory management, and workflow coordination. This role is essential to ensuring medications are prepared, delivered, and managed safely, accurately, and efficiently, supporting high-quality patient care throughout the hospital.

This is a PRN role. A caregiver in this position will work a flexible schedule based on departmental needs and must be available for a minimum of 4–6 shifts per month, with availability every other week. Caregivers will participate in rotating weekend coverage as needed and are expected to fulfill two on-call assignments per year.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide distributive pharmacy services, assistance and support for the Registered Pharmacist.
  • Refill and maintain automated dispensing systems.
  • Fill medications carts daily.
  • Prepare orders and maintain inventory for the pharmacy department.
  • Repackage bulk medications.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Upon hire, must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National HealthCareer Association (NHA).
  • Upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
  • Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program
  • Six months of hospital experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform functions of the job while reaching and stretching, and manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions of job.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
