CNC Mill Programmer / Setup Machinist (R&D – Ophthalmic Instrumentation)

2 Year contract - Conversion potential

Shift: 1st (6:00 A.M.–2:30 P.M.) • Overtime/Weekends: As needed

We are seeking a highly skilled, hands-on CNC Mill Programmer/Machinist to support Mechanical R&D builds for advanced ophthalmic instrumentation. This role focuses on prototype and low-volume precision parts, working closely with engineering on real-time design iterations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program, set up, and operate CNC mills (Okuma preferred) for prototype development

  • Create and modify programs using Surfcam or Mastercam (including surfacing)

  • Produce first article/first piece parts and perform inspections; adjust programs as needed

  • Interpret complex blueprints and GD&T to achieve tight tolerances (±.002)

  • Collaborate directly with engineers to implement design changes on the fly

  • Perform full machine setups and ensure quality output with minimal supervision

Qualifications

  • 10–15 years of CNC machining experience (prototype/R&D environment preferred)

  • 10+ years of Surfcam or Mastercam experience

  • Strong expertise in programming, setup, and machining operations

  • Experience machining stainless steel, aluminum, steel, and plastics

  • Advanced blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge

  • Proven ability to work independently with high attention to detail

  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed
