Description

A mission-driven organization is seeking an experienced executive leader to oversee the administration and operations of a complex organization. This individual will provide strategic direction, operational leadership, and oversight of multiple departments while partnering closely with an elected governing body and senior leadership team.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record leading multi-department organizations, driving organizational performance, and implementing strategic initiatives across diverse functional areas. This role requires strong experience in public sector, tribal government, municipal, county government, or similarly regulated environments where collaboration, diplomacy, and accountability are critical.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead day-to-day operations across multiple administrative and program functions, ensuring effective execution of organizational priorities and consistent service delivery.

  • Shape and advance strategic initiatives by translating long-range goals into measurable operational plans, performance targets, and accountable workflows.

  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls, including fund accounting practices, grant-related oversight, and responsible allocation of organizational resources.

  • Build strong working relationships with boards, councils, advisory groups, and external partners by preparing executive-level updates and supporting informed decision-making.

  • Direct policy development, compliance efforts, and risk management practices to maintain operational integrity and meet applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Develop and mentor senior leaders and department teams, strengthening talent pipelines, succession readiness, and overall organizational effectiveness.

  • Monitor key operational metrics and use data-driven insights to improve performance, identify risks, and support continuous improvement efforts.

  • Guide change management efforts tied to evolving business needs, operational improvements, and cross-functional initiatives while maintaining stability across departments.

  • Support community, government, and stakeholder engagement activities that reinforce the organization’s mission, partnerships, and long-term sustainability.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of senior executive leadership experience overseeing complex operations within public sector, tribal government, non-profit or similarly regulated environments

  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, organizational leadership, and administration across multiple departments or business functions.

  • Strong background in budget development, financial oversight, forecasting, and fund accounting, including experience with grants and compliance obligations.

  • Proven ability to work effectively with boards, councils, advisory bodies, or other governing stakeholders in a high-visibility leadership capacity.

  • Deep knowledge of operational risk management, policy implementation, and regulatory compliance within structured organizations.

  • Experience leading talent development, workforce planning, and organizational change initiatives at the executive level.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to deliver clear recommendations and reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience required; advanced education in public administration, business, finance, or a related field is preferred.
