Full job description
You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (NAVAL ARCHITECTURE) in the Surface Ship Structural Planning Branch (256), Structural Engineering and Planning Division (Code 250), Engineering and Planning Department (200) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying knowledge of naval architecture concepts and principles. Experience applying knowledge of shipboard, shipboard systems inspections, shipboard repair and cost estimating or similar. Experience applying knowledge of nuclear aircraft carrier/submarine structural systems tanks, compartmentation, allocations and arrangements or similar. Experience with preparing engineering instructions, advance planning technical work documents for repair of complex nuclear and non-nuclear ship/submarines class systems and ship alterations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will provide technical guidance for preparation of lists on drawings or technical work documents (TWDs) required to execute complex projects. You will perform reviews of a variety of drawings, material specifications, test procedures, and other documents pertaining to complex projects. You will provide job planning services to prepare work definitions documents. You will act as a troubleshooter in the identification and resolution of technical engineering problems encountered during installations, grooming, or testing phases of waterfront production efforts.
