Senior Resource Planning Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Resource Planning Engineer for our client on a direct hire basis. The right candidate will independently conduct generation and transmission projects, control the budget, and direct junior-level engineers to collectively work and meet project objectives. Work will be performed under the guidance of senior staff. The role requires performing power network modeling and analyses based on knowledge and expertise in power generation and transmission principles. The engineer is expected to contribute towards the successful completion of a range of consulting projects focused on power system planning studies involving Power System Economics, Market Analysis, Market Intelligence, Grid Resilience, Steady-State, Short Circuit and Dynamic Stability, Generator, and Renewables Interconnections. This is a remote or hybrid opportunity based out of Raleigh, NC; Lombard, IL; and San Clemente, CA.

Job Requirements:

  • Conduct power system market analysis and information gathering work.

  • Perform independent steady-state, transient stability, and fast transient model development, analysis, results verification, and reporting.

  • Conduct and lead technical studies for generator interconnection including system impact, feasibility, and deliverability. Perform technical studies per ISOs/RTOs requirements and methodology.

  • Guide and instruct team members using a strong technical understanding of generation, transmission, interconnection, customer and load, and modeling principles.

  • Manage budget, schedule, and quality to ensure successful completion of projects.

  • Focus on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain an understanding of the external client’s main interests and drivers.

  • Identify technical, practical, and economical project risks.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or another related field:

  • Bachelors with 8+ years of experience

  • Masters with 6+ years of experience

  • Doctorate with 2+ years of experience

  • Experience conducting and managing technical studies in areas such as resource planning, grid resilience, transmission planning, and generation interconnection with ISO, utilities, or consulting firms.

  • Proficiency in power system models and tools such as PLEXOS, GridView, PROMOD, Aurora, PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, TARA, Aspen, PSCAD, and/or MATLAB

  • RTO/ISO market pricing structures and processes

  • Expert in Excel

  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate with clients at engineering and management levels.
