As a Home & Careers Teacher at the Tilton School, you’ll be much more than an educator. You’ll play a key role in helping students heal, grow, and discover new possibilities. Through practical, hands-on instruction, you’ll teach essential skills in areas such as nutrition, cooking, financial literacy, career readiness, decision-making, and personal wellness.

Your teaching will be personalized and grounded in each student’s goals. You’ll work in a structured environment with small class sizes and a high staff-to-student ratio, allowing for deeper connections and meaningful support. Many students make significant academic and personal gains. Your impact will extend far beyond the classroom.

We’re looking for a practical, student-focused educator who is committed to helping young people build skills for life and work. This is a role for someone who sees the potential in every student and works with purpose to help them reach it.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and a valid NYS teaching certificate in Family and Consumer Sciences (Home & Careers), or an equivalent teaching certificate obtained through a NYS-approved pathway that leads to a master’s degree in education and permanent certification

  • Certification in Special Education strongly preferred

  • Prior experience teaching students with IEPs or emotional/behavioral challenges is a plus

  • Must meet all NYSED and agency training requirements

  • Able to create engaging, real-world lessons that support academic and life skill development

  • Organized and responsive to deadlines and documentation requirements
