Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is hiring a Senior Principal Software Configuration Analyst in McClellan, CA to help deliver next-generation national defense capabilities in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

What You’ll Get to Do:

  • The new team member will focus on Configuration Management and will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining software configuration management (SCM) processes and tools, with a primary focus on IBM Rational ClearCase.

  • This role ensures that software baselines, builds, and releases are controlled, repeatable, and auditable, supporting multiple development teams working on complex, critical systems.

  • The ideal candidate has strong ClearCase expertise, understands modern software development practices, and can collaborate closely with developers, QA, and IT to improve reliability and efficiency of the development pipeline.

  • Ensure software standards for configuration management are met.

  • The new team member may design, develop, document, test and debug software applications and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions, as time allows while balancing other responsibilities.

  • Implement solutions in multiple components of the system, including storage, OS, network, application, database, and many more.

Responsibilities:

  • Own and administer IBM Rational ClearCase environments (base and/or UCM)

  • Define and maintain branching, merging, labeling, and baselining strategies

  • Develop and maintain automated build and release workflows

  • Troubleshoot build, integration, and CM-related issues for multiple teams

  • Define, document, and improve SCM processes aligned with aerospace/defense quality standards

  • Coordinate with IT on ClearCase infrastructure (servers, clients, views, VOBs, backups)

  • Support change control boards (CCBs) and maintain CM records for audits

  • Provide user support, training, and guidance on ClearCase and CM best practices

  • Contribute to software design, development, testing, and debugging

Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Software Configuration Analyst

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) with at least 9 years of related experience, Master's with 7 years of experience; PhD with 4 years of experience; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree

  • Hands-on experience with IBM Rational ClearCase in a multi-user, multi-project environment.

  • Strong understanding of software configuration management principles, including:

  • Versioning, baselining, branching, and merging

  • Build and release management

  • Change and configuration control

  • Experience with scripting for automation (e.g., Shell, Perl, Python, or Windows batch/PowerShell).

  • Familiarity with software development lifecycles (waterfall, V-model, or agile) and how CM supports them.

  • Ability to read and understand source code in at least one programming language (e.g., C/C++, Java, C#, or similar).

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, especially for build, integration, and CM-related issues.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Security+ Certification

  • US Citizenship

  • Active TS/SCI clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience administering ClearCase servers, VOBs, and views in Unix/Linux and/or Windows environments.

  • Familiarity with regulated or high-assurance environments (e.g., aerospace, defense, medical, automotive) and standards such as AS9100, DO-178C, or similar.

  • ·Experience integrating ClearCase with defect/issue tracking tools (e.g., Jira, IBM Rational ClearQuest) or CI/build tools (e.g., Jenkins, Bamboo).

  • Experience migrating SWCM implementations across source management tools suites.

  • Experience developing and maintaining CM/SCM process documentation, work instructions, and training materials.

  • Exposure to scripting ClearCase operations using cleartool commands and/or ClearCase APIs.

Primary Level Salary Range: $129,300.00 - $193,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
