Addiction Recovery Services Counselor - Per Diem

Location:610 Valley Health Plaza, Paramus NJ

Schedule:Per Diem, 12 hours, evenings (Monday/Tuesday, Thursday and) and potential for Saturday (morning shifts).

Hourly:$35 for CADC, $65 for LCADC

Job Summary:

As an Addictions Counselor, you will provide counseling, verification of benefits and conduct all 12 core functions, including Screening, Intake, Orientation, Assessment, Treatment Planning, Counseling, Case Manager, Crisis Intervention, Client Education, Referral, Report, Recordkeeping.

What You Will Do:

  • Attend individual and group supervision with Clinical Supervisor as scheduled

  • Encourage and support clients' participation in AA/NA, SMART Recovery

  • Follow all Electronic Health Records (EHR) policies

  • Conduct and monitor urine screens

  • Provide support for team colleagues, and engages in program-related performance improvement processes and activities

  • Assist clients with concrete services and advocacy, interfaces with other systems on behalf of client

  • Engage in inter-organizational care coordination and follow up on referrals when needed and/or indicated

  • Assist with problem solving for individuals, family members, treatment and supportive interventions

  • Provide educational, supportive group presentations with a focus on chemical dependency/addictions, and dual diagnosis symptomatology and discussions with clients and/or family members

  • Attend regularly scheduled multidisciplinary team meetings (MDT) and present information for Treatment Plans, Treatment Plan Review and be able to clinically justify LOC - level of care - changes for clients on caseload

  • Demonstrate proficiency and competency in the 12 Core Functions of addiction counseling and their associated Global Criteria, ensuring adherence to professional standards in assessment, treatment planning, counseling, case management, and client education.

  • Effectively utilize the New Jersey Substance Abuse Monitoring System (NJSAMS) to document client information, treatment progress, and outcomes in compliance with state regulations and organizational policies.

  • Apply the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria to assess, plan, and implement individualized treatment plans, ensuring appropriate level-of-care placement and evidence-based interventions tailored to client needs.

What We Need to See:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Completion of 270 hours of alcohol and drug education, approved by member boards of the International Certification Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) [APCBNJ in New Jersey or its successor], or a regionally accredited college or university which shall be related to the knowledge and skill associated with the functions of an alcohol and drug counselor.

  • Documented knowledge of a least one (1) year work experience with children, adolescent and adult populations and/or substance abuse counseling when required

  • A valid driver's license and must be insurable by the agency's automobile insurance
