Responsibilities

  • Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy: Assess, diagnose, and implement nutrition care plans tailored to each patient’s needs. Monitor outcomes such as weight, labs, wound healing, and clinical progress.

  • Educate & Empower: Offer nutrition education to patients, families, staff, and the community. Develop patient-centered materials and resources that support understanding and long-term health.

  • Collaborate with Care Teams: Participate in rounds, patient care conferences, and interdisciplinary meetings. Communicate with providers to ensure safe, cost-effective, and high-quality nutrition therapy.

  • Lead & Mentor: Guide dietetic technicians, interns, and students in delivering nutrition care. Contribute to hospital projects, quality improvement initiatives, and policy development.

  • Drive Quality & Safety: Implement clinical projects, maintain the enteral formulary, and help advance patient safety goals in nutrition services .

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s degree in dietetics or degree that meets the requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required .

  • Individuals credentialed as Registered Dietitians prior to January 1, 2024, are eligible with a Bachelor’s degree in dietetics or degree that meets the requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required .

  • Successful completion of an internship coordinated undergraduate program, or post graduate program accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required .

Experience:

  • One year of experience as an acute clinical dietitian for entry level practice or 3+ years’ experience as an acute dietitian for advanced level practice is preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Lic Dietitian - Must hold a current license or certification specific to the state of employment

  • IADHHS – Iowa Department of Health and Human Services

  • IDFPR – Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation

  • Wisconsin

  • Reg Dietitian required

  • CDR – Commission on Dietetic Registration
