Job Summary and Qualifications

The Child Life Specialist provides a therapeutic environment for the hospitalized child and family. The CLS evaluates the adjustment to the hospital environment and provides emotional support to patients and their families. The CLS acts as a resource for members of the healthcare team.

What you will do in this role:

  • Assesses the child’s developmental abilities and adjustment to hospital setting, for the therapeutic plan of care.

  • Interprets data and evaluates responses

  • Uses therapeutic techniques to prepare patients for treatments / procedures to reduce stress and trauma

  • Provides a therapeutic environment, working with families/support groups

  • Researches the latest trends concerning children in the hospital environment

  • Uses expertise act as a resource both intra- and inter-departmentally

  • Utilizes medical terminology appropriately

  • Supports the facility’s Standards of Performance and ICARE values

Qualifications:

  • CCLS certification by the Child Life Council

  • BLS from the American Heart Association

  • Minimum of one year of experience preferred
