Job Duties

The Southwestern Minnesota Opportunity Council, Inc. (SMOC) is hiring an Education & Family Services Coordinator. Under the supervision of the Head Start Director, this role oversees integrated Head Start and Early Head Start education and family services, ensuring high-quality early childhood programming that supports school readiness, social-emotional development, and family engagement. Responsibilities include curriculum implementation, child assessments, staff supervision, and coordination of education, health, nutrition, mental health, and social services. Based primarily in Worthington, MN, the position supports programs across Nobles, Rock, Murray, and Pipestone counties and works closely with families, staff, schools, and community partners.

Minimum Education Required

-Bachelor's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Family Services, Human Services, Social Work, or related field preferred.

-Early Childhood Education degree or equivalent coursework with early childhood or Head Start experience preferred.

-Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, child development, and family engagement principles required.

-Experience with Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD, and ChildPlus preferred.

-Knowledge of childcare licensing standards and compliance requirements preferred.

-Experience working collaboratively with parents as partners in education strongly preferred.

-Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and computer/data system skills, required.

-Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse families, staff and community partners.

-Valid driver's license and ability to travel required.

Minimum Experience Required

Minimum of two years' experience in early childhood education, family services, home visiting, or Head Start/Early Head Start programs preferred.
