Division: Public Health Services Section: See to Succeed Location: 190 Heights or West End Health Center Workdays & Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm * Subject to change*

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Houston Health Department is seeking motivated, flexible, and mission driven individuals to support daily operations of the See to Succeed program. See to Succeed is a public–private partnership providing comprehensive eye exams and free glasses to school age students across Houston and surrounding areas. We collaborate with local school districts to bring children to high volume vision clinics or deliver services directly on campus through our mobile unit.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain the highest possible professional standards in performance, and customer service to the patients while representing See to Succeed. - Provided day-to-day oversight to the See to Succeed optical team; while working closely with See to Succeed leadership to ensure standards and priorities are met

  • Assist with clinic set-up/break-down, monitor inventory, and ensure that all patient and administrative paperwork facilitates an efficient workflow.
  • Oversee frame styling process and assist when needed.
  • Ensure accuracy of glasses orders and coordination of shipping to lab.
  • Assist with frame ordering, optical inventory and lab coordination
  • Assign staff to receive, sort, and conduct quality check on glasses orders.
  • Prepare routes for dispensing and adjustment of glasses on patients (fleet share mileage reimbursement available)
  • Prepare, maintain. and submit daily reports.
  • Train new opticians on optical duties, pretesting, lensometry, and ensure competency from all staff on a regular basis
  • Assist with other department special projects and duties as needed/assigned

EDUCATION Requires a high school diploma or a GED.

EXPERIENCE: Four years of administrative or customer service-related experience is required. OR Associate’s degree may be substituted for up to two years of experience. Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for up to four years of experience. Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred
  • Successful track record of working with children and school administrators preferred
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

  • Job is part-time and seasonal (more information on work schedule will be given in interview). SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRE The selection process will involve application review and/or interview. Department may administer skills assessment test.

SAFETY IMPACT POSITION - YES If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.

Pay Grade - 18

SALARY INFORMATION: Grant Funds Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
