Full job description

You supervise and coordinate activities of production employees in assigned areas. You ensure employees are completing their work assignments in compliance with food safety and personnel safety guidelines.

3rd Shift Hours: 9:00pm-6:00am, Monday-Friday, Weekends based on business needs

What You Do.

Food Safety/Quality

  • Monitor employee practices to ensure they comply with regulatory and company quality policies.

  • Monitor products to verify conformance to specifications.

  • Monitor equipment, building and contractors to ensure compliance with company quality policies.

  • Investigate and answer Corrective Action Requests.

Employee Safety

  • Monitor employee practices to ensure they comply with regulatory and company safety policies.

  • Monitor equipment and plant conditions to ensure they comply with regulatory and company safety policies.

  • Investigate and recommend improvements related to near miss, property damage or employee injury incidents.

  • Support the plant safety program by actively participating in improvement programs.

People

  • Foster and support the Sargento Culture.

  • Monitor employee interactions to ensure they comply with our corporate culture.

  • Create an open two-way dialogue with all employees.

  • Encourage and promote career advancement opportunities with employees.

  • Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

  • Issue and document discipline in accordance with the Sargento policy.

  • Document individual employee conversations used in the coaching process.

  • Complete, at a minimum, annual employee evaluation.

  • Complete new employee evaluations.

  • Provide appropriate depth of hourly backups for key positions in your area.

  • Ensure employee training is current, and concepts have been retained by the employee.

  • Create and deliver monthly department meetings.

Process

  • Understand production schedule and recommend areas for improvement. Is able to create and adjust work orders as needed.

  • Has, at a minimum, a basic understanding of the equipment or processes in area of control.

  • Has, at a minimum, a basic understanding of the formulas or raw materials used in area of control.

  • Interpret work orders and can assign employees duties to support the work.

  • Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.

  • Recommend improvements to production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.

  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department, or work crew.

  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.

  • Communicate with peer supervisors and cross-functionally to coordinate activities in the best interest of Sargento.

  • Direct the setup and adjustment of equipment.

  • Use technical tools/systems required to support manufacturing (SAP, scanning guns, Maintenance Excellence)

  • Analyze, review and fix production reports

  • Review and update training programs.

  • Monitor supply usage and inventory.

  • Trouble-shoot material issues.

  • Interprets and enforces company disciplinary process in a consistent and fair manner.

Position-Dependent

  • Lead or support plant-wide safety program.

  • Lead or support plant-wide training program.

  • Direct and monitor sanitation employees and the sanitation process.

  • Lead or participate in project teams.

  • Lead or participate in cost reduction teams/projects.

  • Participate in customer audits or customer tours.

  • Supervise support positions such as Personnel Scheduler.

  • Prepare product cost estimates and investigate variances.

  • Savanna and SAP expert support as needed.

  • Additional duties as assigned by Production Manager.

Has the ability to work a flexible schedule including weekend work.

Has the ability to accept a temporary reassignment to a different shift.

Your Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise up to 15 Process Technicians and up to 50 Employees. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of areas assigned. Also, can directly supervise up to 2 non-exempt employees.

Your Education and Experience.

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school required. Bachelor’s degree in operations, business, quality or related field preferred. Minimum of 1 year experience in operations, production supervision, sanitation, quality, maintenance or related experience preferred.
