Coordinator Fine Arts

Pay Grade:  860  (Min $367.92 Daily) Work Days:  226

  Primary Purpose: Work collaboratively with the PISD community to develop curriculum and assessments for the Band and Orchestra programs.  Consult with teachers, principals, staff, and appropriate committees regarding curriculum development, instructional materials, classroom resources, assessment tools, and the implementation of programs in the area of Instrumental Music in grades 6-12. Plan and implement staff development related to instrumental music curriculum.  Develop and implement guidelines related to extra-curricular activities associated with instrumental music programs.  Serve as liaison between the campuses and with the Texas Education Agency, University Interscholastic League, Texas Music Educators Association and other relevant professional organizations

Bachelor's Degree / Master's Degree Teacher Certification with endorsement in the area of responsibility Special Knowledge/Skills:

A comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and technology the areas of responsibility Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills Experience:

Three years of teaching experience in area of assignment. Educational leadership experience preferred. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Develop, promote, and support a curriculum that helps each child develop a sense of self-worth and critical thinking skills according to the Strategic Plan of the district. Collaborate with principals, teachers, and parents to coordinate a strong fine arts program. Coordinate the activities of the instructional materials adoption process in instrumental music. Monitor instructional processes systematically and continuously to verify that program activities are keyed to producing desired program outcomes and recognition of programs' success. Evaluate and recommend improvement in the purposes, design, materials, and implementation of the instructional and extra-curricular programs. Develop evaluation instruments to guide program improvement and to monitor student progress. Use evaluation data for program improvement. Plan instructional programs to meet identified needs. Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers to pilot such efforts when appropriate. Assist teachers in designing quality learning experiences for all students. Recognize and reinforce excellence. Encourage, organize, and administer subject area competitions. Promote a positive, caring climate for learning. Employ effective interpersonal skills. Promote collaborative teaming by working with faculty and encouraging student-parent input to develop a more positive school climate. Focus assigned subject area curriculum toward accomplishing the district's mission and goals. Assist in recruiting and interviewing applicants who are qualified to lead performing arts programs to meet stated district. Make sound recommendations concerning personnel placement, transfers, retentions, and dismissals to the Director of Fine Arts. Demonstrate skill in coaching staff and peers. Provide technical assistance to the instructional staff concerning the teaching and learning process through conferencing and staff development sessions. Secure consultants, specialists, materials, and other community resources to assist in meeting program goals. Implement and monitor policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and the local board policies in the area of specialization. Report to the Director of Fine Arts the status of performance related to responsibilities. Contribute to the development of budgets by submitting cost estimates based upon documented program needs. Assist the Director of Fine Arts and the Purchasing Office in the construction and recommendations of bids for the Fine Arts Department. Monitor and maintain the equipment inventory of the instrumental music department. Assist in developing basic equipment and material lists for new and existing buildings. Take the initiative to develop professional skills appropriate to job assignments. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible and be a role model for all district staff and students. Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Plano ISD and follow directives from superiors. Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor. Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and/or supervisor. Communicate district curriculum, instructional practices, accomplishments, goals, and new directions both to parents and the community at large to solicit their support. Involve students, parents, and others from the community for input in various areas. Participate in community activities (to the extent possible and appropriate) that foster rapport and mutual respect between the district and the larger community. WORKING CONDITIONS:   Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions; and maintain emotional control under stress.   Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent district wide and / or statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Work with frequent interruptions. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling. Prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
