Job Description

Insight Global is looking for a Financial Counselor to support patient admissions and financial operations within a fast-paced healthcare environment. This individual will play a key role in guiding patients and families through the financial aspects of care, including insurance verification, eligibility screening, and payment planning.

This role supports daily admissions driven by referrals from multiple emergency departments, with patient volume typically ranging from 5–20 cases per day. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a dynamic setting, engaging directly with patients, and managing both administrative and financial responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Participate in the admissions process, including responding to inquiries related to services, insurance, and financial obligations

Perform insurance verification and eligibility screenings across various payer types

Provide financial counseling to patients and families related to self-pay, co-pays, and outstanding balances

Review applications and patient data for accuracy, completeness, and quality

Collect and document all patient demographic and financial information

Prepare and present daily financial counseling reports prior to team meetings

Assess patient financial needs and refer to appropriate assistance programs (e.g., Medicare, Medi-Cal, Covered CA)

Coordinate and collect patient payments, including in-person collections and follow-ups

Conduct daily patient follow-up for outstanding balances and financial needs

Maintain knowledge of case rates (IP, OP, CD), levels of care, and daily census activity

Manage and reconcile credit balances, including:

Self-pay patient balances and reimbursements

Commercial payer credit balances

  • This role will be fully on-site.

  • Training for first 2 weeks will be M-F 8-430pm.

**After 2 weeks this role will be Sunday-Thursday 10am-6:30pm

Skills and Requirements

1–2+ years of experience within a medical facility, physician’s office, or medical business office

Experience with:

Insurance verification

Collections

Financial counseling

HIPAA compliance

Experience working with credit balances (self-pay and commercial payer)

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

High School Diploma or equivalent

Up-to-date on required vaccinations (3 COVID-19 doses + annual flu shot) Experience within a behavioral health setting

Familiarity with EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems

Bilingual in English and Spanish

Knowledge of Medicare and Medi-Cal
