Full job description

Hardware and Firmware Security Research Engineer Description - We have an exciting opportunity to join our Security Lab. The role will be focused on designing platform security for endpoint devices, with particular emphasis hardware-firmware co-design and on designing and using robust hardware roots of trust and security properties. You’ll also collaborate with business R&D teams to ensure business impact drives our development strategy.

You will be contributing to HP’s security research, contributing to analysis of use cases and threats, as well as design and prototyping novel security architecture to help inform the design of future products and services. You will be working closely with systems security research engineers, and with security technologists across HP.

The candidate will have solid technical skills and a background in computer engineering and architecture, ideally with knowledge in systems security and some understanding of enterprise IT architectures. This position requires a strong engineer who can communicate effectively about low level computer architecture and security.

This will be a fixed term research engineering contract position, initially for up to 18 months.

Job Responsibilities

  • Developing new hardware and firmware security architecture

  • Building prototypes to de-risk and show feasibility of ideas

  • Documenting architecture and technical designs

  • Validating use cases with end-users and business partners

  • Working in a fast-paced environment that iterates and evolves rapidly

Job Requirements

  • Experience with hardware and firmware technologies (x86, ARM, UEFI, PCIe, DMA, etc.)

  • Knowledge of computer architecture

  • Strong engineering skills

  • Knowledge or interest in endpoint security

  • An ability to convey technical knowledge to both technical experts and non-technical teams alike

The following skills and attributes are a plus

  • Knowledge in systems security

  • Knowledge of enterprise IT (device and security) management

  • Knowledge of OS kernel and hypervisor security

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent
