Position Information Posted Range: $66,840-$94,480 annually The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. American Water is also proud to offer employees learning opportunities and work experiences to grow professionally! _ Primary Role_ The Senior Cross Connection Specialist role performs skilled technical duties necessary to ensure that the water systems comply with regulations and that proper backflow prevention assemblies are installed so that contamination or pollution of the water supply does not occur. Key Accountabilities * Perform technical inspections and field surveys, testing and maintenance of cross connection control devices and backflow assemblies to ensure protection of water supply systems; maintains and distributes listing of all certified backflow device inspector. * Assists Supervisor or program lead in coordinating the local enforcement of the cross connection control program to ensure compliance with regulations, company tariffs, and the American Water cross connection best operating procedure (BOP). * Provides training to personnel in the proper management of established cross connection/backflow protection programs. * Educates & trains contractors, regulators, local officials and customers with regards to the cross connection/backflow protection program. * Maintain database of backflow prevention assemblies used in AW water systems as well as in applicable industrial and commercial water systems. _ Knowledge/Skills_ * Good to excellent working knowledge of all Federal, State and local requirements for Cross Connection and Backflow Prevention regulations, guidance or statutes. * Technical knowledge on the functioning of backflow prevention devices and plumbing systems. _ Experience/Education_ * High School Diploma required; Associates Degree or higher is preferred with an emphasis in a mechanical science. * 3-5 years experience in water production and transmission. _ Travel Requirements_ * Local and overnight travel to districts may be required. _ Other_ * Substantial time may be spent in the field visiting customers, answering questions on backflow device installation, and performing site inspections. * Key interfaces/relationships include production, field services, environmental groups, FRCC, Alton Call Center, local plumbing organizations, fire departments, municipal leaders, professional groups such as AWWA and NAWC, state regulators, and customers. _ Competencies_ Champions safety Customer obsessed Cultivates innovation Drives Results Nimble learning Collaborates * Join American Water...We Keep Life Flowing*™ * American Water is firmly committed to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and prohibits employment discrimination for employees and applicants* based on his or her age, race, color, pregnancy, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, marital status, citizenship, or because they are an individual with a disability, protected veteran or other status protected by federal, state, and local laws.
