CNC Machinist (Mill Set-Up)

Location: Wheeling, IL

Position Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist with strong mill set-up experience to join their growing manufacturing team. This position is responsible for setting up and operating 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC milling machines to produce high-precision components while maintaining strict quality and production standards.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience performing complete machine set-ups, reading blueprints, selecting tooling, and making machine adjustments to ensure parts meet tight tolerances.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC milling machines.

  • Perform complete machine set-ups, including tooling, fixtures, and offsets.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.

  • Verify first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments.

  • Make machine and tooling adjustments to maintain quality and production efficiency.

  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and equipment issues.

  • Maintain dimensional accuracy while meeting production deadlines.

  • Perform routine machine maintenance and keep work areas clean and organized.

  • Follow all company safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of CNC machining experience.

  • Proven experience performing mill set-ups on 3, 4, and/or 5-axis CNC machines.

  • Ability to independently set up and operate CNC mills.

  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge preferred.

  • Experience using precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.

  • Solid understanding of machining practices, tooling, feeds, and speeds.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in precision manufacturing, aerospace, or other tight-tolerance industries.

  • Ability to edit or troubleshoot CNC programs is a plus.
