POSITION: Prep Cook

DEPARTMENT: Food and Beverage

REPORTS TO: Executive Chef

FLSA Status: Part-Time / Hourly / Non-exempt

THE ROLE

This position is hands-on and is responsible for the production and inventory of hot and cold foods under the direction of the Executive Chef and works according to established standards and procedures set by the Food & Beverage Director and Executive Chef.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Always maintain organized sanitary workstation
  • Properly labels and dates food items for storage and retail concession sales.
  • Assists in the preparation of cut vegetables, baked goods, proteins, and salads.
  • Minimize waste by controlling overage and usage.
  • Follows approved recipes and production standards.
  • Prepare all food for concessions as directed by Executive Chef.
  • Perform other duties and tasks assigned by supervisor.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Proficiency in mathematics to assess dry and liquid weights and measurements.
  • Ability to focus, with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a confined environment with hot and cold temperatures for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong work ethic that encourages quality team efforts to complete the variety of tasks required.
  • Ability to maintain proper grooming and dress code standards for the kitchen.

  • Must be able to identify and properly use all kitchen small wares.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification or the ability to acquire certification within 6 months of employment.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of 2 years of food service experience in a commercial or restaurant kitchen environment.
  • Knowledge of food service health and safety standards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move around the facility; to stand and walk for the duration of the shift; talk and hear. This position requires stooping, carrying, bending and lifting up to 40 pounds. This position may require work inside or outside of the building, as needed by events.

  • Performing work through repetitive eye/hand coordination.
  • Daily lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs. at a time.
  • Ability to distinguish color.
  • See and distinguish objects or symbols 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less. Depth perception, peripheral vision and bringing objects into focus.
  • Climbing ladders and staircases multiple times per day as needed to pick stock.
  • Constant standing, walking, stooping. Constant reaching, handling products.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Location: On Site – Wilmington Convention Center
  • Kitchen environment – otherwise not substantially exposed to adverse work conditions.
