Full job description

The Collections Specialist 1 is a full-time position in the Collections Office that performs entry-level professional and analytical work while supporting the collections function in the Department of Finance. Processes account receivable functions and assist in recording tax payments. Performs related duties as required.

Metro Finance has several divisions, including procurement, treasury and management and budget. The department's employees are charged with providing financial management, information and business products to policy makers, departments, investors and the Nashville community to give them confidence in our government and to help them make informed decisions.

  • Assists in the collections of various taxes and fees.
  • Process payments and records receivable transactions in the General Ledger.
  • Participates in various financial compliance related tasks.
  • Informs taxpayers of Collection policies.
  • Assists taxpayers on using accounts receivable software.
  • Provides data and reports for the department.
  • Participates in reviewing banking transactions daily.
  • Keeps abreast of changes or new developments in technology.
  • Works on special projects as needed.
  • Keeps management informed regarding ongoing work and seeks guidance on any unusual situations.
  • Attend meetings and workshops as needed.
  • Supports the Collections Team in all Collection activities
  • Other duties as assigned Associate’s degree in a related field

Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply. Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

  • Knowledge of relevant Metro Tax codes and six (6) years of tax collection or finance related experience.
  • Experience working for a government entity.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Excel and Word and any enterprise-wide software system.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
