Full job description

We are seeking a Social Worker School Counselor to provide high-quality support and services for the children and others we serve.

Additional Information:

  • Salary Range:

  • Unlicensed: $49,800/annually

  • Licensed: $52,800-$83,352.16/annually

  • Full Time position, Monday-Friday

Responsible to:

School Age Program:

  • Principal- for everyday supervision in school setting

  • Clinical Director- EDU for clinical supervision

For Early Education Program:

  • Director of Community Based Professional Services

Job Summary:

Social Worker School Counselors are responsible for providing high quality support and services for the children and others we serve. They utilize effective communication and interaction skills with students, children, families and others to promote success and help those we serve achieve the highest possible quality of life.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provide individual counseling and crisis counseling as needed

  • Provide family sessions and family contact as appropriate

  • Complete required paperwork (all client contacts, progress notes, tx plans and reviews)

  • Case management and coordination with other service providers and families

  • Crisis Management

  • Provide support and explanation to education staff regarding students (sensitize to trauma and clinical need

  • Complete academic paperwork (IEP goals, be present for CSE meetings

  • Reading and sending emails internally to keep staff informed

  • Attend meetings as necessary

  • Any other duty as required by you supervisor

Education Required:

Master’s degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling

Experience Required:

  • At least 1 year of experience working with children and families in a Social Work or Mental Health setting. This may include an internship.

License/Certification Requirements:

  • Must have one of the following NYS Licensure: LMSW/LCSW/LMHC/LMHC-P or;

  • NYS Licensure eligible and obtain licensure within 6 months from date of hire

Training Requirements:

  • TCI Certification (training provided by OLV Human Services)

  • New Hire Orientation

Physical Requirements:

The overall nature of the position is sedentary requiring little physical effort with occasional light physical exertion required. There is little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions.

  • The constant physical demand of the position is sitting.

  • The frequent physical demands of the position are standing, walking, climbing, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination.

  • The occasional physical demands of the position are lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling.
