Associate Industrial Engineer

Job Purpose:

Creates a competitive advantage for Hormel Foods by working cross-functionally to optimize manufacturing processes, eliminate waste, improve ergonomics, implement continuous improvement methodologies, and build accurate labor standards, costs, and production capacities.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs, develops, and implements effective and cost-efficient labor standards

  • Supports and maintains departmental production labor cost systems

  • Applies effective workplace designs to meet ergonomic/safety objectives

  • Initiates, supports, and justifies capital appropriation requests for projects and equipment

  • Identifies opportunities for cost reductions and efficiency improvements for the plant and works cross-functionally to implement these solutions

  • Contributes to plant-wide continuous improvement efforts through knowledge and implementation of the Hormel Production System

Requirements:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field with a minimum 3.0 GPA preferred

  • Applicants must not now, or at any time in the future, require employer sponsorship for a work visa

  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer

  • Must be 18 years of age or older (all plant positions)

  • Must be open to future relocation

Location:

  • Willmar, MN

Training:

  • Complete a comprehensive set of job-specific training modules during the first six months of employment. This training program consists of working with experienced Industrial Engineers to learn these basic skills in a hands-on environment:

  • Work measurement, time studies, and manufacturing processes

  • Use of our software for labor efficiency measurement and labor cost

  • Continuous Improvement methodologies, standardization, and waste reduction using Hormel Production System

  • Use of plant production floor data collection software

  • People Safety and Ergonomics in a food manufacturing facility

  • Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)

  • Capital Project Execution including defining requirements, scoping a project, selecting equipment, calculating return on investment, and supporting installation and start-up

  • Calculating department and line capacities and utilization rates

  • Industrial Engineers attend a virtual Inspired Hires orientation. This will include presentations by different divisions to increase product knowledge, company knowledge, and leadership skills.

Compensation/Benefits:

  • Compensation package includes comprehensive medical, dental and vision coverage, discretionary annual merit increases, bonuses, 401(k) with employer match, stock purchase plan, relocation assistance, paid time off, FREE two-year community/technical college tuition for children of employees, and more.

  • The base pay range for this position $59,000 to $82,600 per year; however, actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills set, level of experience, and specific office location.
