Job Title: 8th Grade Teacher

Position Summary

The 8th Grade Teacher is responsible for providing rigorous, standards-based instruction to prepare students for a successful transition to high school. This role focuses on supporting students’ academic growth, critical thinking skills, and social-emotional development while maintaining a structured and engaging classroom environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction in assigned subject area(s) (e.g., Math, English Language Arts, Science, or Social Studies).

  • Prepare students for high school readiness through challenging coursework and skill development.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English Learners.

  • Use data and assessments to monitor student progress and guide instructional decisions.

  • Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.

  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance.

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns.

  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, counselors, and support staff to address student needs.

  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school improvement initiatives.

  • Implement district curriculum, policies, and procedures with fidelity.

  • Support school activities, including events that promote student engagement and transition to high school.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (Master’s degree preferred).

  • Valid Indiana teaching license appropriate for middle school (grades 5–9 or subject-specific licensure).

  • Strong knowledge of content area and adolescent development.

  • Effective classroom management and organizational skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior middle school teaching experience, particularly at the 8th grade level.

  • Experience preparing students for high school readiness and state assessments.

  • Familiarity with instructional technology and data systems.

Working Conditions

  • School-based environment.

  • May require standing, walking, and lifting instructional materials.

  • Occasional evening or weekend responsibilities (e.g., conferences, school events).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and move throughout the classroom for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
